Abstract
Ljudsko tijelo je iznimno složen organizam s raznolikim tkivima i organima, koji se sastoje od različitih tipova stanica. Fascinantno je promatrati kako se sve te stanice, s različitim funkcijama, razvijaju iz jedne jedine matične stanice. Istraživači diljem svijeta postavljaju temeljna pitanja o tome kako jedna jedina stanica može generirati takvu raznolikost. Laboratorijska istraživanja matičnih stanica omogućuju razumijevanje njihove sposobnosti transformacije u različite tipove stanica. Proces istraživanja ovih transformacija fascinantan je iz dva glavna razloga, prvo, omogućuje promatranje osnovnih mehanizama koji leže u osnovi razvoja organizma, a drugo, otvara vrata za razvoj novih terapija koje bi mogle revolucionirati medicinu. Terapija matičnim stanicama, obuhvaćajući različite postupke s matičnim stanicama, nudi nadu u borbi protiv jedne od najsmrtonosnijih bolesti diljem svijeta, odnosno u borbi protiv raka. Matične stanice posjeduju poboljšane sposobnosti ciljanja tumora, potencijalno smanjujući neželjene učinke i poboljšavajući terapijsku učinkovitost kada se koriste u kombinaciji s drugim tretmanima.
Abstract (english)
The human body is an extremely complex organism with diverse tissues and organs, which consist of different types of cells. It is fascinating to observe how all these cells, with different functions, develop from a single stem cell. Researchers around the world are asking fundamental questions about how a single cell can generate such diversity. Laboratory studies of stem cells enable understanding of their ability to transform into different types of cells. The process of researching these transformations is fascinating for two main reasons, firstly, it enables observation of the basic mechanisms underlying the development of the organism, and secondly, it opens the door to the development of new therapies that could revolutionize medicine. Stem cell therapy, including various stem cell procedures, offers hope in the fight against one of the deadliest diseases worldwide, namely cancer. Stem cells possess improved tumor targeting abilities, potentially reducing side effects and improving therapeutic efficacy when used in combination with other treatments.
